A passion for Smena 8m by Murat Uğur Eminoğlu
"Beginners. Start, do not stop, and try over and over again!"
Tell us about yourself.
I am 30 years old and live in Turkey. I am system manager, in other words an IT man.
When and how did the film journey begin for you?
When I got bored taking pictures with digital cameras 4 years ago, I started to develop a great interest in analogue photography. Since then, I have had a passion for analogue photography.
What Could we always find in your gear bag?
"Smena 8m" is an irreplaceable camera for me. Additionally, I keep a Canon Ae1-p+28mmf2.8 and a Mamiya 645ProTL in my bag.
What camera makes you click?
It is, needless to say, "Smena 8m". This camera sometimes surprises me and sometimes upsets me – it's all that matters.
Who are your models? How do you interact with them before shooting?
My models are amateur models. I think it is difficult to find professional models if you aren't a professional photographer. I spend some time with my models and I like to get to know them. We have fun times together and share experiences. This way, we become friends and as a result we start having photo sessions.
What inspires you most?
Most of the time, I get inspired by my models. The inspiration comes from our friendship indeed. As I get to know them and learn more about their dreams and lives they give me ideas.
Do you have any advice for film photographers out there?
I think that the ones who got into the spirit of analogue photography don’t need advice. However, for the absolute beginners, I can't say anything but start, do not stop, and try over and over again!
Do you think you will still be shooting film in 20 years?
Yes, I do think I will still be shooting film in 20 years. It is because analogue photography is in vogue now and camera manufacturers make a contribution to the rise of analogue photography as well.
