Analog emotions, by Raffael Stiborek

"The most important thing for me is to get some emotions out of my images"

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Raffael Stiborek, I´m 27 years old, from Vienna / Austria and I´m a professional portrait photographer.

When and how did the film journey begin for you?

My film journey began about 4 years ago when i bought my Hasselblad 500CM.

What type of film do you usually shoot and what made you choose it?

Most of the time i shoot portra and tri-x, because they are both really versatile, i like to push film alot, it gives me more contrast and i like those colorshifts. I also love to shoot cinestillfilms, sometimes i like fuji 400h but I´m not that confident about it as I´m with portras.

What camera makes you click?

My favourite camera is the Pentax67 by far! its a real pleasure to shoot the handling is as easy as with my Nikon fm2 so is the focusing.. i think about selling my hasselblad because its not my kind of camera. I also believe that not every camera+film combination works the same way because the differnet lenses render the colors differntly

Between black and white and colour film which would you choose?

Wow thats a hard one! if i could choose only one film it would be TRI-X because its so timeless, its the only BW film i use:)

What lenses do you use?

Only really fast prime lenses! for 35mm i use 35,50 and 85 1,4-1,8 lenses for medium format i like lenses from 75,80, 105 up to 150mm f2.8

Do you make any experiments on film?

Not really, i shoot some polaroid and i push film nothing fancy:)

The most important thing for me is to get some emotions out of my images, shooting film slows you down and i believe that also my models and people i take photos of feel that and so concentrate more on every single click!
