Diamante (Diana) Walker: Film is unlimited

"Developing and scanning your films is magical, everyone who likes shooting film should do it at least once!"

Tell us about yourself.

I’m a 26 years old girl, living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have a degree in computer science and I work as business analyst in a telecommunication Company.

When and how did the film journey begin for you?

My father passed away in 2014 and I inherited his analog camera. I always loved photography, and after this happened, I started shooting on film. I felt a strong connection with it and was a beautiful way to canalize my emotions.

What Could we always find in your gear bag?

My Canon AV-1 and Yashica 635. More than one 35mm film (I like using expired films) and 120mm film. My cellphone, ‘cause I don’t have a lightmeter so I use an app for measuring light when shooting with the Yashica camera.

What camera makes you click?

Yashica 635. I found lovely the image you see through the viewfinder and the big film for medium format.

Who are your models?

My models are friends or people I contact because they have some physical characteristic I like, or the attitude I’m looking for my shooting.
I like talking and getting to know a bit about them before we start, make them feel comfortable, that’s important because it's reflected on the result.

What inspires you most?

I read about photography and look at other artists’ work. I also find inspiration in walking and looking at all the places I go. Nature is always a source of inspiration for me.

Do you have any advice for film photographers out there?

Don’t think too much and go with the flow with your feelings, believe in yourself and what you are doing. Take any chance you can to shoot and don’t feel limited. Do not give up and keep trying if you’re not getting the expected results, study how to get the picture you want.

Film photography is not easy because you can’t see the result so you’ve got to concentrate a bit more and trust in what you’re doing. Developing and scanning your films is magical, everyone who likes shooting film should do it at least once!
