Félix Marcel. Stories told on film

"I always try to make them feel comfortable as much as possible before trying to shoot them."

Tell us about yourself.

Hi, I'm a 20-year-old student coming from France.

When and how did the film journey begin for you?

Two years ago I went to Camden Market in London, I saw a magical stand of old cameras. Then I've spent 25£ for a crappy Praktica. By this point I've learned by myself how to enjoy analog photography.

What Could we always find in your gear bag?

I always try to use very old cameras or alternative ways of shooting, so I'm pretty sure you'll find an old folding camera, some expired film rolls or something like that into my camera bag.

Do your photos reveal your feelings?

My main purpose is to tell stories or to create an emotional impact through each of my pictures. Many times my pictures do not have a lot of information or details, I want people to feel free, I want to let them imagine their own story beyond the picture.

Who are your models? How do you interact with them before shooting?

Friends, my girlfriend or my brother. I always try to make them feel comfortable as much as possible before trying to shoot them.

What inspires you most?

I've a lot of sources of inspiration. Most are other photographers like Elliott Erwitt, Davis Ayer, Tamara Lichtenstein, Ryan Muirhead or Théo Gosselin. I also love painters like Eddward Hopper or Ivan Chichkine.

Do you have any advice for film photographers out there?

Take risks. Make experiments. Enjoy.
