Film is different, by Vincent King

"Film changed my way of looking and working with certain subjects"

Tell us about yourself.

I’m Vincent King ( Vince) I’m 24 years Old and I’m from Amsterdam in the Netherlands. My current occupation is studying Communication and Multimedia Design at the school of Applied Sciences in Amsterdam.

When and how did the film journey begin for you?

My film journey officially started when my girlfriend bought me a Diana F+ Camera from Lomography. That was in the summer of ’12 or ’11 I think. It’s different working with film. I do a lot of portraits and the thing was that I was almost more behind the camera looking at the screen instead of working from what that moment presented. Film changed my way of looking and working with certain subjects!

What type of film do you usually shoot and what made you choose it?

I’m not really a guy that uses 1 type of film. I really try too but I have a thing for buying film that get’s discontinued( Kodak Plus-X 125). But a small selection of the film I have in my fridge right now are Superia 400 and Pro 160s from Fuji and of course Portra 400 and 800.

What camera makes you click?

Everything with a wind lever hahaha!

Between black and white and colour film which would you choose?

This is a hard one. I think I would go for black and white. You have so much control from shooting to developing. I like that a lot. The film must suitable to my style would be a Kodak Plus-X 125.

What lenses do you use?

I Don’t have one camera but a returning type of lens are the 50mm lenses. The FD1.4 and the EF. I also use a 17-40L if I really am in need of taking super sharp portraits.
