Ghosts and peel-aparts, by Brian Henry

"I shoot and experiment with anything I can get my hands on"

Tell us about yourself.

I am 26 years old and co-owner of a curiosity shop here in Baltimore, MD called Bazaar.

When and how did the film journey begin for you?

I became a serious film addict when I was in high school. My school was fortunate enough to still have their traditional black and white darkroom running and I spent countless hours in there, in complete fascination with processing and experimenting with my photographs. The teachers I had were completely supportive in what I was doing and even managed to create a extended photo period for me so I could continue taking full advantage of the darkroom. I owe a lot to them!

What type of film do you usually shoot and what made you choose it?

I shoot and experiment with anything I can get my hands on. My true love will always be Polaroid Time-Zero and Polaroid ID-UV. Now that my stash is running low, I am shooting more black and white film, mostly Ilford FP4 & HP5

What camera makes you click?

The SX-70 will always be the greatest camera of all time. I equally use my Pentax 6x7, converted Polaroid 110a and Polaroid 250. It really just depends on my mood and subject.

Between black and white and colour film which would you choose?

If I could only pick one, I'd choose black and white.

What lenses do you use?

I have a 55mm on my Pentax 6x7. Other than that, there isn't much of a choice with the Polaroid cameras; they're all built in.

Do you make any experiments on film?

Yes! I'm always abusing my film to create various effects. My entire passion for photography is based around enjoying the art of creating photos and not just taking them.

I primarily use heat, light and chemicals to create various effects. Sometimes it's just expired film. I won't say exactly what I do to each photo, because there's no fun in that! If you are interested in doing experimental stuff, then experiment! It's a lot funner that way.
