Hidden faces on film by Mariana Dias
"It's amazing what film can give us."
Tell us about yourself.
I am 29 years old. I am based in Porto, Portugal and right now I am taking Masters Degree on Contemporary Art.
When and how did the film journey begin for you?
I started shooting film with an artistic purpose on 2013. I've started using photography as an artistic method during my degree on Fine Arts, back in 2009, but only digital back then. Thanks to a good friend of mine, also a major inspiration as well since she's a photographer, I've started working with film. It's amazing what film can give us.
What type of film do you usually shoot and what made you choose it?
Here we don't have a wide range of choice, unfortunately... People don't shoot film nowadays as they used to 20 years ago, so it's slowly dying. The only brands I can easily find are either Kodak Color or Fujifilm. I use either. Right now I am actually gathering a few brands online and will be buying soon. Brands such as: Kodak Portra, Kodak Ektar, Kodak Max, Afga, Lucky Color 200 and a few expired ones.
What camera makes you click?
I currently own a Canon AE-1 and a Polaroid. I want to get another one soon and I'm still trying to realize which brand...maybe a Praktica or a Yashika.
Between black and white and colour film which would you choose?
Colour film. Colors are really important to me for now, although I love black and white photography.
What lenses do you use?
50mm prime lenses.
