Motoki Tonn: Film. Go for it

"I always take a contax or a Mamiya 7 with me."

Tell us about yourself.

I am already 42 years, though most consider me to be around 25 ;-) I do communication design for a living and some photography jobs as well.

When and how did the film journey begin for you?

It came from music and there I always was in the analog world (using the digital for production as well, but keeping most of the production chain analog). I always wanted to do more photography and directly started with analog, because I love the look, the process and I don´t want to spend most of in the photoshop post, though I really appreciate this work. A lot of my friends are really crazy good photoshop wizards. I prefer the analog thing.

What Could we always find in your gear bag?

Always a cam, most of the time a laptop. I always take a contax or a Mamiya 7 with me.

What camera makes you click?

I love the sharpness and the flexibility of the Contax G and the Mamiya stuff.

Who are your models? How do you interact with them before shooting?

I love to shoot with friends, but also shooting people I don´t know is really thrilling.

What inspires you most?

There are so many crazy good photographers all over the world. I really dig into Instagram. You can find extraordinary stuff there every day!

Do you think you will still be shooting film in 20 years?

Yes! I have some digital stuff for my work as well, in some cases you just need the technology, but whenever it´s possible, I use film. As long as there are films available, I will go for it.
