Toby Harvard: Timeless strangers

"Always on the lookout for strangers with a certain spooky/haunted/timeless quality."

Tell us about yourself.

35, from London, and I've been writing lately (my movie The Greasy Strangler, which premiered at Sundance and SXSW, is released in October).

When and how did the film journey begin for you?

As a child, messing around with my parents' film cameras.

What Could we always find in your gear bag?

Kodak Ektar 100 film, pentax k1000 and canon ae1 cameras. And sometimes an olympus xa.

Do your photos reveal your feelings?

They do and they don't, if you know what I'm saying.

Who are your subjects?

I'm always on the lookout for strangers with a certain spooky/haunted/timeless quality.

What inspires you most?

At the moment: Angelo Badalamenti music, Paul Pope comics and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974).

Do you have any advice for film photographers out there?

Keep experimenting and trying new cameras/film etc. Pretty boring advice..!
