Violeta by Pelayo Arbues!
"After I got my first rolls developed I fell in love with film photography."
Tell us about yourself.
I was born 32 years ago in León and I am currently living in Madrid. Right now I work as a data scientist at Weplan.
When and how did the film journey begin for you?
I started shooting digital quite a long time ago. After some years, I started to have less and less time to spend shooting, and my job makes me sit in front of a computer many hours a day. At that time, my friend Julian started shooting film and I realised that I could reduce my time processing pics with the laptop if I shot on film. That was the rational part of the story, but the truth is that after I got my first rolls developed I fell in love with film photography.
What Could we always find in your gear bag?
I don't have a lot of photo equipment so I don't usually take bags with me. I carry my cameras using a shoulder strap from Lucida, which are perfect for being ready and not missing any street photo or candid shots of Violeta.
Who is your model? How did this idea of a project occur to you?
Since I met Violeta I have always taken lots of pics of her. I don't usually plan the projects I shot, I just go shooting and then think what pics fit together. This time was no different, so in this project I am gathering the best pics on film of my daily life with her .
What inspires you most?
Well, I could say something else but it is obvious that Violeta is a great source of inspiration. For street photography, I love unexpected moments and awkward associations of places, people, clothes, gestures... I guess that also books and films with grotesque characters make me want to go out and look for them in the streets.
Do you have any advice for film photographers out there?
Shoot more often and don't use excuses. You can always find some minutes to take a picture, no matter how busy you are. Ah, and buy some good sneakers, if you are not in studio, you are likely to be walking a lot.
