Wilson Wong: New York on film

"My Nikon F3 is amazing!"

Tell us about yourself.

I am 27, I live in New York City, and I work as a government employee in a city owned hospital.

When and how did the film journey begin for you?

I started about 5 months ago, when a photographer friend of mine told me I had a good eye and should pick up a camera.

What Could we always find in your gear bag?

A few rolls of film, a tripod, a 50mm lens.

What camera makes you click?

My Nikon F3 is amazing! Everything runs as it should, and it is smooth like butter.

Who are your models? How do you interact with them before shooting?

My models are a few friends, and people that are interested in the way I shoot. I try to give minimal direction and let the model do their thing without compromising the lighting that I want to achieve.

What inspires you most?

I am inspired by all my artist friends, not just photographers. Seeing everyone develop as an artist really drives me to go out there and improve my craft.

Do you have any advice for film photographers out there?

Do your own thing! Try everything to find out what you're good at.

Do you think you will still be shooting film in 20 years?

Film never dies. It hasn't died out yet and I don't believe it will.
