Kuzey, a 6-year-old film photographer!

"I love it. I really get excited when my dad brings my photos home"

In a previous post we've mentioned writing an article (For the love of film! with Kutay Kesim) about Kutay's son, so here it goes!

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Kuzey Aren Kesim. I am six years old.

When did you shoot your first roll of film?

When I was 5 years old. I shot my first film in the city (dad's comment: He refers to Sydney CBD)

What film cameras do you use?

I have an Olympus camera (dad's comment: Olympus mju 140 Zoom). It takes photos in black and white (dad's comment:because I haven't yet loaded any color film onto his camera)

If you were to choose what would you like to get for your birthday? a film camera or toys to play with?

A new camera. My dad says when I get a little bit older I can start using his big camera (dad's comment:He is referring to my Minolta Maxxum 700si. I reckon he is not going to wait that long)

What's your favourite game to play?

Spider-Man game on my mum's iPad

Shooting film is something you enjoy? You want to continue with this?

Yes, I love it. I really get excited when my dad brings my photos home. I love looking at my photos with my mum and dad.

I sometimes go to the camera shop with my dad (dad's comment: He is referring to my favourite old-school camera shop in Newtown) and I love that place too. They have more cameras than my dad has at home.

What do you want to become when you grow up?

I want to play soccer and also be a photographer who takes pictures of soccer players and basketball players.
I also want a camera shop like the one my dad takes me. So I can earn money by selling cameras too.

For us it's a new thing to discover such a young film photographer, what did your friends say when they found out about you shooting film?

I told them at school as my "news" (dad's comment: He has news day on every Wednesday at school). They thought I had a big camera but I don't.

Did you try digital photography? If the answer is yes, which one do you like more and why?

No, I have never used one. I can only see my pictures on paper or on my dad's computer
